Amoxycillin and clavulanic acid are mixed in a ratio of 5:1. The mixture is also known as Augmentin ™.

Amoxycillin is an inhibitor of bacterial cell wall synthesis. It inhibits the cross linking of peptidoglycan by binding to transpeptidases. High activity against gram-negative bacteria like Agrobacterium species. ß-lactamase sensitive. Clavulanic acid is a specific inhibitor of ß-lactamase and protects Amoxycillin from inactivation by ß-lactamase.
