Aminoglycoside antibiotic. A selective agent of transfected mammalian, yeast, plant and bacteria cells (with r-plasmid). | |
|
A selective agent of transfected mammalian, yeast, plant and bacteria cells (with r-plasmid) used for cells that carry a neomycin resistance gen of transposons Tn 5 or Tn 601. Resistance is conferred by the bacterial gene for aminoglycoside-3'-phosphotransferase that can be expressed in eukaryotic cells. G418 is highly toxic for many cells, thus the optimal concentration has to be tested for each cell type. Appropriate concentration are normally in the range of 50µg/mL and 100µg/mL. G418 is a registered trademark of Gibco division of Life Technologies. |
