Ionomycin free acid 10 mg

Ionophore polyether antibiotic from Streptomyces conglobatus (highly specific for bivalent ions). Active against grampositive bacteria, for studies on Ca2+ transport through membranes. | |

Ionomycin belongs to the group of Ca-ionophores, that binds Ca2+ in a 1:1 complex and transporting it throµgh biological membranes. Ionomycin has been isolated from Streptomyces conglubatus. The binding ability of Ca2+ is highly depending on pH. Below pH7.0 no Ionomycin-Ca2+ complex can be found. At pH9.5 Ionomycin shows a maximum in Ca2+ binding. At pH9.5 Ionomycin is much more efficient and much more selectiv than the ionophore A23187. As a consequence from the Ca2+ binding ability, Ionomycin shows different physiological effects that are based on Ca2+ functions within the cell. Beeler, T.J. et al. (1979) J. Biol.
