From Streptomyces albo-niger. Inhibitor of protein biosynthesis. Antibiotic used for selecting mammalian cell lines, which have been transformed by vectors that express puromycin-N-acetyl-transferase. Causes premature termination of the nascent polypeptide chain by its action as aminoacyl-t-RNA analog (in procaryotes and eucaryotes). Sµggested concentration for selection is 1.0 to 30µg/mL (mammalian). Stock solutions can be made in water (5 - 50mg/mL). Store solution at -20°C. Vazequez D.
