Methylenblue is used to stain nucleic acids in polyacrylamide gels, but it can also be used to stain agarose gels. Staining procedure: Incubate gel for 1 hour in 0.4 M Na-acetate/0.4 M acetic acid / 0.2% methylenblue (pH4.7). Peacook A.C., Dingman C.W. (1967) Biochemistry 6, 1818-1827.
