Catalase (EC 1.11.1.6). Ca. 1800 U/mg 100 mg - S5226.0100

This catalase is derived from Aspergillus niger. The catalase is active at pH values between 4.0 and 8.0, with an pH-optimum at 5.5. Catalase is active between 30°C and 65°C with an temperature optimum at about 40°C. The overall activity optimum is depended on different parameters (time, pH, temperature, substrate, etc.). Catalase is used for the removal of peroxides, the generation of oxygen and, in coupled systems, for the determination of metabolites e.g. uric acid (1). This catalase is a very stable preparation particularly suitable for immobilisation purposes. 1 U catalyzes the cleavage of 1 µmole hydrogen peroxide per minute to water and oxygen at 25 °C, pH 7. The decrease in hydrogen peroxide concentration can be followed spectrophotometrically at 240 nm.
