Package Size: 1 g Water soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic from Streptomyces sp.. Inhibitor of protein synthesis. Differs from other aminoglycoside derivatives in that it is bacteriostatic instead of bactericidal. Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic which acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and inhibiting protein synthesis. It's activity is generally modest, particularly against gram-positive bacteria. Some gram-negative bacteria are sensitive.
