Product information "DMSO, Cell culture grade"
DMSO is an aprotic polar solvent used in chemical reactions, in PCR and as a cryoprotectant agent for the preservation of cells, tissues and organs. DMSO is used in cell freezing media to protect cells from ice crystal induced mechanical injury. It can be used for the deep-freeze storage of primary, subcultivated and recombinant heteroploid and hybridoma cell lines as well as embryonic or hematopoietic stem cells. DMSO is frequently used in the combinations with BSA or fetal bovine serum (FBS).
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is used for the production of fresh, competent bacterial cells and for the long-term storage of bacteriophage l (final concentration 7%).
Since the oxidation products of DMSO inhibit the transformation, fresh DMSO should be aliquoted and stored frozen at -20°C.
