GHRP6 (growth hormone releasing peptide 6) induces the secretion of growth hormone (GH). In the membrane of clonal GC somatotropes, this peptide elevates the number of functional voltage-gated Ca2+ and Na+ channels. Chronic treatment with this peptide causes an elevation in Na+ macroscopic current in bovine pituitary somatotropes in culture, which results in an increase in the release of GH.

Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-6. GH-releasing peptides (GHRPs) sind synthetische Peptide die direkt auf Rezeptoren der Hirnanhangdrüse, wie GHRH, wirken um die Ausschüttung von Wachstumshormonen  (GH = Growth Hormon) zu stimulieren. 

Die Freisetzung von Wachstumshormonen (GH) wird von einer Vielzahl von synthetischen Sekretatoren stimuliert, von denen GHRP-6 (growth hormone-releasing hexapeptide), das bestuntersuchte ist. In der Membran von klonierten GC-Somatotropen Zellen, GHRP-6 erhöht die Anzahl an spannungsabhängigen Ca2+ und Na+ Kanälen. Die Dauergabe von GHRP-6 führt zu einem erhöhten Fluss an Na+-Ionen in Rinderhypophysenzellen in Zellkultur, was wiederum zu einer erhöhten Freisetzung von Wachstumshormonen führt.

Physiologische Wirkung:
Selektiver Inhibitor der α-MSH Aktivität bei Froschhautbioassays. GHRP-6 ist identisch zu (His1,Lys8)-GH welches selektiv Wachstumshormone in-vitro und in-vivo frei setzt. GHRP-6 ist auch ein Antagonist zu Somatostatin.

[D-Lys3]-GHRP-6 ist ein Polypeptid das in Position 3 die unnatürlich Aminosäure D-Lys enthält (H-His-D-Trp-D-Lys-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2).
