Recombinant Human IFN-g produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain of 144 amino acids and amolecular mass of 16,879 Dalton.
IFN-gamma is produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, and has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons. IFN-gamma is used in the research for possible therapeutic agents against COVID-19 (Nezhad et al.: Therapeutic Approaches for COVID-19 Based on the Dynamics of Interferon-mediated Immune Responses >).
